API
So, here's a photo I took out the front window the first week we got here. Hotter than fire and more humid than sauna but fabulous blue skies and big puffy white clouds.
Here's another shot in the same direction about the same time of day from Wednesday. What you are seeing is not clouds or fog or a pending rain shower. This is pollution. This is actually much more clear than what you see in the more crowded city areas. There is a guide called the Air Pollution Index (API). Don't know what the reading would be here but the highest reading today was in Central (heavily populated 'city' area), which came in at 146. Here's a story that gives more info. API Info. They even cancelled XC (cross country) practice for Syd's team.
The Realm of Gizmoland
Here's what it looked like before we moved in.
Lady sod layer.
Too many steps up to the back yard so they just drop stuff over the wall.
Gizmoland is complete. They used squares about a foot wide on each side. Came from the mainland around Guangzhou (about 90 mins away). Now I have to water it 3 times a day until it takes root. No sprinkler system here. I sure miss the one I had in CA.
Lionrock
So this guy isn't named Lionrock. I really don't know what his name is and frankly he's dead, so who cares. Lionrock is actually the name of a typhoon that appeared outside of HK about Monday of this week. Which brings me to this guy. Him and about a gazillion of his buddies suddenly materialized Monday afternoon. I first saw him in the back yard where my sod guys were working. Come to find out that they were all over the field and the track during XC practice. They all show up whenever a typhoon is near. Don't know why. Just one of those freak of nature things.
