(This is the second entry of this event. I mistakenly deleted the first post when I was trying to add in the photos that didn't show up to begin with. Unfortunately, the first post was much better. Sorry.)
This past Saturday, Alex was coming back from a workout in Kowloon Tsai with his new coach. The taxi he was riding in was involved in a four car pile up. He was in the passenger side (meaning the left side of the car), rear seat of this cab when the driver plowed into the back of a car in front of him. Alex wasn't wearing a seat belt but he came away with only a few cuts and bruises.
The driver of Alex's taxi said he got cut off by the guy in the gold Honda. We still haven't figured out he could have smashed into the rear of that car if the other guy was cutting across the lane.
This last shot shows where the cars all ended up. They took away at least one person on a stretcher.
Right after it happened, Alex called me with "Holy crap! This guy just rear ended somebody!" Of course my first response was "Are you OK?" Once we established that he was only scared and not too injured, I told Julie and took off to go pick him up. Hong Kong traffic being what it is, it took at least 35 minutes to get there. I had the ambulance guys check him out and decided that we didn't need to go to the hospital.
The icing on the cake actually happened just as I was able to get past the cops by convincing them that Alex was my son. The first thing I get from the cab driver was that I owed him $70. And the meter was still running! It took every ounce of restraint I could muster to keep from just knocking this moron on his keister! After I got all up in his grill about almost killing my kid, the cops were able to pull him aside and convince him that it would be better if he just forgot the fare. Unbeleivable.
So, with the slightly bruised cheek, the knots on the elbow and both knees, we limped on back home for Thanksgiving dinner. On a Saturday.
