Mid Autumn Festival

These were taken during the Mid Autumn Festival at the end of September. This is supposed to celebrate harvest time and is full of lanterns and moon cakes (Awful bakery items stuffed with bean curd and such. not too tasty but big business here).

This is in Victoria Park. This event lasted about 5 days and probably had 500,000 people go through here. Took about 3 weeks to create these exhibits and string all of these lights. Lots of puppet shows, kids play areas and Chinese vendors selling moon cakes. This night, it was just me and about 20,000 of my Chinese buddies.

This is the Golden Moon. They built a pond first and then built the Golden Moon in the pond. Huge line to get in so I stayed out.

It actually changed colors from golden, to purple, to green etc.etc. Six stories high.

Lots of these 'lantern people'. Kid with and Angry Birds t-shirt in the background. AB's are huge over here.

Lantern strings overhead.

Here's something you don't see over here. A Marching Band. On stage. Go figure. They weren't that good but the crowd was digging it.

Of course, you have to have Dragons at a Chinese Festival.

Yum, yum.

This one's for my Dublin peeps.
