Good showing by the HKIS Cross Country Team. In the girls, we took first individually with a new course record. Alex finished 5th overall and first in the conference.
In Guam the races start at daybreak, or about 6am. Of course, you have to be at the course at least an hour before which means we all got out of bed around 4:30 am. We get to the course on the first day and it's dark but it's also starting to rain a little. Well, about 20 minutes before the girls race, the bottom falls out. Raining like we were in the middle of a typhoon. By the time the girls race started around 6:10, there was standing water in places that was knee deep. We won and had a good showing from all of the girls.
Boys raced in the same conditions but by now, mud was developing too. Pretty flat course with one small hill and a nasty turn at the bottom. Alex came down the hill in first place a promptly wiped out around the corner. The second place guy hurdled him and hit the gas. By the end, Alex was in fifth and did really well, I thought. He's not too happy with the results but that's the competitor coming out in him.
